By Ryan Cudworth

24th September 2024
Within this lesson we are going to do some research on franchises within the games. Going into how they work and really diving deep into the franchises, which will help to get inspiration for are own work. we also talked about what well do and need to know for these lessons and being properly explained about what is is and how to properly do them.

The phone number for any kind of help for this ceruse is, 0115 952 2075 and Rachel.
There are about 2 formative assessments and one summative assessment.

the first deadline is within the formative assessment 1 and is at Sunday 13th December 2024, 11pm.

To hand in the summative assessment I'll need to have done, a research journal, case study (2500 +/- 10%), Reflective Appraisal, Bibliography and Academic integrity.

There are 6 module Learning Outcome.

there are plenty of different websites to go and look at:

Now we are thinking and coming up with what game and franchise we would like to do for are case study. The franchise has to have at least more at least 2 or more games that they have made for it to be used for the case study for the case study we need to think about, what is the franchise that I'll be studying for this case study? How many games that have been made for this franchise and if its long-standing? What is the date of the franchises first ever released and finally what was their most recent release.

I'll be studying, (for the case studies), the video game franchise Biohazard. Biohazard has more then 2 games that they have released, most of them are the games known as Resident Evil, and there are even remakes of them.

CASE STUDY

By Ryan Cudworth

Biohazard

For this case study I’ll be looking into the game studio known as biohazard, that has made tons of games that have become very successful among several community years and has gathered a worldwide fan base. The main gaming question are that of the game series of resident evil. Resident evil is a well-known horror shooter game.

History Of Biohazard

Biohazard is a highly successful Japanese media franchise. Biohazard started off with its first product being a video game, that was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara and was released in 1996. The gaming question is the very well-known and highly successful resident evil, which in 23rd December 2020 had sold around 107 million units. From this very successful game had spawned a plethora of many more resident evil games keeping the series alive and spawning different types of media like comic books, CGI movies, novelisations and many more. And with all that this series of resident evil has still been going on as strong as ever since it was created, with its most recent version being that of the video game resident evil village which has been able to sell around 10 million copies since it’s release within 2015.

Resident Evil Style

The Resident evil games all followers similar present of the main characters either in a group, two different story, or just one storyline or trying to complete a mission that has been set to them either by themselves or someone else. And having to fight and defend themselves against monsters and mutants, who tried to kill them every year twist and turn within the story. Obviously, the genres within these games are that of horror, action, shooter, survival, puzzle, Apocalyptic, third person and Sci-fi.

The resident evil games are mainly aimed for a much more mature target audience between the ages of 14 to 25 years old. The reasons for this is that since the games are mainly comprised are very horror and gore themes, it’s not really suitable for younger audiences. Meaning of the games have a very dark and gloomy atmosphere with a lot of terror and enclosed spaces to help make the game seem more intense and suspenseful. This is the main reason why I’ve chosen to do a case study on the biohazard company since the games that they create are very much within my style and I like how they only use the style of horror and Gore but also how they expand upon it and find new ways to make old concepts seem more vibrant and expressive.

Conclusion

In conclusion, after looking at the history of biohazard and the games of resident evil I would like to be able to draw inspiration from the style theme and layout of their games and see if I can pull any kind of ideas from them and be able to use them for my own work. I’ll take detailed looks at concept art and game layout to get a good feel of how they create a model their environments and how they work it into the story of the game, I may even decide to either watch or play through the resident evil games and get a real feel of how they are.

01st October 2024

Within this lesson today we looked at starting to make are research journal and the reason why we are writing and making a research journal.

after doing the starting bit on PebblePad for are research journal, we went onto looking at art & design history and looking at and talking about art movements.
Abstract Expressionism
Art Deco
Art Nouveau
Avant-Grade
Baroque
Bauhaus
Classicism
CoBrA
Color Field Painting
Conceptual Art - Maurizio Cattelan

I looked into some more art movements around the time that resident evil was first released.
Neoism 1979
Toyism 1992
Transgressive Art Massurrealism 1992
Remodernism 1999

after that we used a search engain know as OneSearch, which is a well know and reliable why to find info and articles and the subject or topic that you are writing about and can be really helpful in finding what you need for your work.

8th October 2024

for this lesion we first looked at the work we had done within Pebble Pad and worked on it for a bit.

after we were done with that we had been given a quiz to try and answer as many guest ions that we could. We were given

Art Style Within Video Games

We looked and discussed what does it mean by art style within video games. we talked about different types of art styles that have been used within some games and they also talked about what kind of thoughts would go into the art style for a game.
now we have been given a list of questions that we are now having to answer relating to are franchise.

Art style is the way the game and everything within it will be produced and viewed towards the players.

For my franchise its art style is that of a more realistic horror style.

I believe that technology have made a large impact to the creation of games, with it not only making it much faster to create and design the game but it also has made it better to work within a group and discus the thoughts and ideas for the games. Over all I think it had made a great impact.

Within modern days it has become more easy for people to access and play tones of video games, since now that we have computers and consoles we can buy or download with easy, when back in the days people would have to leave their homes and travel to an arcade just to have a chance to play the game they wanted.

There are many games that have been known for there distinctive art styles. some examples are Cuphead with it's rubber hose style, Minecraft with its blocky 3D textured style and Resident Evil with it's realistic horror style.

For a games like Resident Evil the art style is perfect for the type of target audience this game is looking to attract, since it's realistic horror art style is perfect for the young teens and adults that they are creating the game for.
