RESEARCH DOSSIER - Pre Production Konflict 47 - Ryan Cudworth

For this preproduction project I’ll be going into research and creating a dossier for each of the areas that Will be important for creating not only my concepts for this project, but to also understand how I will need to design and create for this pre production project. His areas will include looking into an understanding Warlord Games and Konflict 47 and all of the areas that I need to overcome and create as close as possible to the ways that the creator of Konflict 47 do with their own work when doing pre production for their tabletop game. This will mainly contain with me you trying to understand not only what the creators of a Konflict 47 are looking for within this project but also were think about and understand what audiences of this tabletop game are expecting for when they are looking at characters within the Konflict 47 universe.
Another area that I’m going to need to go into detail and are the actual characters for this project. For this, I am going to need to go to each one of my two factions and understand every little detail that surrounds them. By doing this, I’ll be able to greatly understand not only the characters that I’m trying to create, but also help with the designs for them, with the understanding like where they are or their backstory will generally help to create a convincing character design that fits with my ideas.

Warlord Games

Firstly, I’ll be talking about the tabletop game Company known as warlord games. I’ll be going over various Different information that I was able to find about this company, Who founded it and when it was first created, This company provides under the products that has come of it, And any other important detail details that would help me make my way throughout this project and understand how to meet with the requirements that I’ve been given by this company.

Back around October 2007, Two men known as John Stallard and Paul Sawyer I decided that after being made redundant from their previous employment and against workshop they decided that instead of getting real jobs that they would and I quote, “why don’t we get together and make some plastic romans in 28mm scale?” By John Stallard. And with this, it had started the creation of them creating plastic historical miniatures that could be played on top of there kitchen table, which was the start of the creation their company known as warlord games. As you might guess, warlord gains as a tabletop games company that create historical mini figures so that people can play and re-enact historical wars throughout history, creating factions and armies that could go against its range of ally and axis teams for the player to chose from, and only that has many different tabletop games for its audience to choose from and play along with friends, With one of these tabletop games are being Konflict 47. It seems that many people not only enjoy the wide range of campaigns in which warlord games offers for its audience but they also enjoy them many different miniatures and models that they have for avid players to buy and build To help create the world within their tabletop campaign. Many people have given high praises for not only the high-quality of miniatures and models which wall offers but also the story is that they have within their campaigns for each one of their many different tabletop games. This shows dedication and real love for their company and to what they are doing for their audience, It’s nice to see a company that really puts in effort to create high-quality material for their audience to enjoy and share.

From looking at where this company had started and where they are now within modern days, I really wanna put in a lot of effort into this project to make sure that I put in the same amount of effort that they have but within their company, Since that would be what this company would expect from someone when creating any sort of assets or characters for Any of their campaigns. And it’s also what to their audience will expect as well, which is a big part of this project since that will be who the final Pieces of work of my project will be going towards within the final stages with it supposed to be for the only the company To see my work, but also for their audience to enjoy.

Konflict 47

Secondly, Now are we going over one of the projects that had came out of warlord games known as konflict 47 or for shorter K 47. Like with the last one, I’ll be going over all the research and information hours be able to find about this project and how I can use it to better understand and create my own work based off of this tabletop game. I’ll be trying to look into the overall art style and how they create and design their designs to fit in with their desire for the K 47 universe. And I’ll also be looking Into their audience and what they expect from this tabletop game.

K 47 as I have said is campaign created by warlord games that within a fictional World War II alternate history. When this ultimate history in the K 47 universe World War II has been extended past its original Predestined and with it being extended by the appearance of riffs. These riffs while not only has extended at the war for many more years Has also given access to Unimaginable technology in that any ally axis faction wouldn’t have been able to get their hands on within their respective time period at the time, With the war now we’re being transformed into a more futuristic style battle with lasers and blasters using all sorts of new technology created it with the appearance of the riffs to create unholy machines of war and creatures of unknown horror. Already this is a very solid and interesting premise for anyone who is looking into K 47 campaign, The inclusions of these unworldly risks that have given new way to more advanced technology within a much more primitive time creates interesting scenario within the gameplay And also allows for much more interesting and unique designs within the different fractions within the campaigns, since the war has been extended past its original end art movements that had been introduced after the time of the original end of the war had never been able to take place an hour things like fashion and art are no longer being explored in the ways that they had been which has now kept the style in which they design and create stuff in a more primitive fashion, Which means that to things like clothes For example will be stuck within the World War II era fashion style and not only that but also any machinery that they create would also be matching machines of that time period. This allows for an interesting issue when coming with designing my own characters for this project since they would have to match the style of the K 47 universe, And a gross so maybe find ways to change up the style of clothing in a way that doesn’t fully go against the original style of the campaign. This means that I want me to take real note to my design designing process for this project and really try to understand and replicate the overall style and artwork That has been already created for the K 47 campaign by wall or games. This means that I will need to take a close look at the mini figures and models that were created for the already existing K 47 tabletop game taking note of design features and styles in which they had don’t use to create the design for their characters and builds, I also need to look at any official artwork and from their sketches by artist within the warlord gain company to make sure that I am properly replicating the overall style in which they have used for their creations, Or to at least get inspiration for my own work as well.
From what I have seen within the artwork for K 47 they like to have a unique style for each one of the different fractions within their campaign with each one having different ways in which they style and design the characters With using different shapes and silhouettes to help different each one of the small figures from each other making it much more easier for players to understand and keep track of their own figures. Also from looking at their work it seems that many of their figures have exaggerated an enlarged body proportions to help make it much more easier for their audience to understand and recognise what they are looking at within the model, some of the main things about this that they have done for their models is to enlarge the head of the model to make it much more easier for not only players to paint and texture their model and getting every detail making it much more easier for them to do, But they have also made sure to enlarge their weapons to also do the same being able to make sure that players will be able to not only recognise this more details within the weapons but also be able to paint it more finally.

From this we can see that the only doesn’t the company you understand and recognises the complications and hardships that their players would have to go through if their models were smaller in certain parts, With them also able to show off any small details within their models by exaggerating them. Overall, the style in which AK-47 universe has been created and designed shows a lot of dedication and artistic skills that have been put into their work, Which means that for my work within this project I will have to put in the same amount of effort and skills to help get across my own character and make sure that I have fully understood and replicated the style of the K 47 campaign showing that I have been able to meet my criteria for this project and understand what the company is looking for and what their audience expects within a model within the campaign.

Konflict 47 Differs from Bolt of Action

Thirdly, Now I’ll be going into the differences between K 47 and bolt of action, Both of these are two tablet miniatures in war games that have been created by warlord games and I have been tasked now within my research to try and find differences between the two different campaigns and try to see the power wall has been able to create two similar games but being able to find ways to create differences between them to make it unique for players to interact with. I’ll be going over to my important information about bolt action and how it has had an effect on the creation of K 47. All of the differences That I have been able To find between the two different campaigns and and see how those differences have affected to the overall gameplay and style within the two campaigns. And then finally going over everything that I found and seeing how I could use it within this project to help me you get a better understanding of what I need to do and give me a great understanding of the campaign of K 47.

To start off with, I’ll be going over what bold of action is so we can get a good understanding of this campaign and how we can find similarities and differences between it and K 47. As I’ve said before, both of action is a war based style Miniature tabletop game created by the company of warlord games. For the The setting in which is campaign takes place is within second world war, We’re being an ultimate version of the war that players will be able to reenact against their friends in an epic battle, With the themes of them being mainly surrounded by the major conflicts of World War II long players to re-create those famous battles and scenarios within their gameplay. And finally, for the ally and axis facts that are shown within the campaign of bolt of action, Germany, British, Italian, Soviet union and many others with each one having unique strengths and weaknesses that the players would be able to utilise within their pay through of this tabletop game. Already from looking into and researching bolt of action I have found many similarities between this and K 47 but I’ve also found some major differences that have shown themselves throughout my research. I should credit that the gameplay and strategies within the K 47 are mainly pulled from the same gameplay within a bolt of action, which has shown me that the world old company likes to utilise gameplay mechanics across each other game trying to utilise things from other games to use within future projects which shows that they are very good at adapting and transferring information and skills between the campaigns to help streamline and shorten their process, when creating projects like this.
Now onto the differences that I’ve been able to find between these two campaigns. From looking at different resources and information I have found that wow many things within these two campaigns are very similar like with the setting of being around the second world war and that the main style A design within these campaigns are mainly derived of the style within that time. I have also found that within the K 47 they have been able to introduce not only new units, army list and special rules, That the players of the K 47 campaign are able to utilise their Playthrough of the tabletop game, Wow, also incorporating some elements that are from the first edition of bolt of action, Showing that while they can incorporate new unique things, they can also find ways to incorporate some old work into their new campaigns. The main reasons for these differences within the game of these two very similar campaigns is the main factor of that K 47 is set with a world that has more futuristic technology and advancements that bolt of actions universe does not. With this the shows that even though two campaigns have very similar premises and settings within their style of gameplay by adding In new element into one of the campaigns can create a completely different and new style of campaign that well similar to one of them is different in its own ways. Not only does the incorporation of the high-tech technology not only change the gameplay in which the campaign would be set around it also allows for differences within the style and designs of their characters and builds. This can be seen within the different figures between the K 47 campaign and the bolt of action campaign with clear differences within technology being shown between them, With K 27 having much more advanced and more heavily armed troops while both of action has a much more historical accurate design designs for their figure figures.

Overall, I believe that buying finding the differences between these two similar campaigns have given me a lot of inspiration and ideas within my project, With it showing that by incorporating some small Detail or information within my creations could end up creating a completely new and different style that has not been seen within the K 47 Campaign as of yet. I’m happy to try and find new ways to incorporate this information into my work and try to find ways in which I can draw inspiration that only from K 47 but also from both of action since wow it is different in many ways there’s still similarities between them and I believe that looking at both will help me get a great understanding of this project and be able to reach my tasks for it.

Faction 1 (German - Hero Character)

Fourthly, for my first faction for this project, I had decided to choose the axis-faction of Germany, And I had also chosen it to be my hero character for this project. The reason why I chosen Germany for my first faction was the reason that I had a better understanding of Germany’s role within the second world war and the impact that they had on it and had quite a few ideas for the type of character that I wanted to create for this project. And the reason why I decided to use Germany for the hero character for the project was because I wanted it the character that I had in mind to be more special and unique then just a simple trip unit that comes in abundance within the campaign, And by having the hero character, it would be able to stand out more against any other more common troop. For my overall idea for this character, I’m thinking of a type of super soldier kind of theme For them, With them being a part of a sort of experiment that is given them some extraordinary and super ability but the only allowed to keep the ability if they continue to take the same substance or energy over and over again with it slowly deteriorating their body and making them no longer the same person as they were when they first started. I think that this is a very unique and interesting idea to come up with for a hero character win a tabletop game since The context of it is sort of like the use of drugs And the negative effect that it has on the persons body Which is very rarely seen within a hero type of character within any sort of fiction. I also wanted to try and incorporate a sort of mecha design within this character We were thinking that it could be used as sort of mechanical bodysuit that the character would do after long use of the addictive substance that has fully deteriorated their body over time in a large metal machine being fully sustained on the substance energy within the mecha. I think properly you’d be able to show this towards the audience I will have to create two separate designs for the character one as they are normally as their super soldier form and the other one of their large mecha final form After that long use of the super serum or energy. This will mean more work for me to do with designing two separate designs for one character, but I believe that I’ll be able to accomplish this if I work hard enough and keep my schedule open and stay on top of my work.

I’ll do a little bit of backstory on my character and Go into a little bit of detail details about them and who they are. For the name of this character, I’ll be going for the German name Valentin Herrmann. (Valentin means strength in German and Herrmann mean soldier/worrier in German.) Valentin Was a normal one family madness, the wife and kids that he loved very much during the Second World War, But because of the risk appearance and the continuation of the war, a terrible Incident occurred when an enemy air raids Flies over kills his family as he was out to war. And after hearing about his family‘s tragic demise, his Dimino became much more cold and serious with him very rarely taking care of his own self becoming dishevelled and a former shell of his old happy self. Wrapped in grief and went for revenge Valentin Had decided to take part within an experimental super soldier experiment that used a special substance that was found leaking from one of the restaurants near the encampment and see the effect that it had on humans and whether it could give any sort of supernatural abilities, And after many days of being tested on an altered, he was the only real successful survivor to come out of that experiment and become their first ever super soldier, With his only force being to take revenge for his family, tragically fallen and end this endless war for his faction. Brought his tie as a super soldier he and the scientist saw that his body was Slowly needing more and more of a special serum to stay is superpowered self and the more that he took the more he needed of it slowly becoming an addiction of power. Special equipment was created for him to stay nice supply of the overtime that was not enough and the scientist had no choice but to create a specialise machine that wouldn’t allow him to be the only one to use it and also get a Constant in tight Of the room that his body now craved to even be able to move any of his muscles, By now when he isn’t no more than just a large chunk of metal pall around Buy for a great cell phone always striving to end the war that claimed the ones he loved and finally find peace in after the war end.
Overall, I think this is a very interesting idea for a character something that’s not really that new or not seen before but still holds a lot of interest within the universe of K 47, And I think that it holds a lot of room for a interesting and unique designs that I can come up with for this character and try to portray is slow descent into decay within my designs. Overall, I’m very happy to get started and try to bring this character to life within This project and see how well I’ll be able to replicate the style of K 47 within my own work.

Faction 2 (Soviet Union - Special Unit)

Finally, for my second  faction for this project, I had decided to choose the ally-faction of the Soviet Union, And I also chose in the Soviet union to be yet the faction that I had chosen to create a character for a special unit. The reason why I chose in the Soviet union as my life action is because it was a fact that I didn’t really have any initial ideas for and thought that it could apply to be a real challenge for me to face within this project so I wanted to try and challenge myself by choosing it and try to understand How I would be able to create a design with something that I rarely know which would be very common thing within future work within this industry. The reason why I had chosen to decide to make the Soviet Union for my special unit was because I wanted to try and create a sort of creature base unit that would be using abundance within this tabletop game and for that while looking at figures of the Soviet Union, they didn’t really have many creature based Figures so I wanted to try and apply more into this fact.
The idea that I had for this special unit was a type of canine experimental war hound Creature that would be based off of a Soviet Union experiment where they had tried to graft on a smaller dog top half onto a bigger dog back to see whether it would survive or not, since when doing some research into the Soviet Union I had found this story and it really stuck with me and I remembered it as a very interesting little piece of information that could make a really interesting unit within the K 47 universe since from looking at other factions and their use of creatures it seems that they are not opposed to create monstrosity is an unholy creatures just to get an edge in the war. I decided to do a dog because not meaning of actions really have any Canine base troops, with the only one being the British faction that I was able to find any for so I thought that by adding in another set within the Soviet union would allow for a little bit more union between the factions and allow for some different takes on the canine war dog aesthetic within this campaign. Reason why I believe that having a smaller dog grafted onto the back of a bigger dog would work within this universe is that the smaller dog would basically act as extra surveillance and be able to detect and worn the bigger breed of any upcoming attacks from a much better advantage point Wow the bigger dog would act as basically the attack dog of this troop with it chlorine and gnashing at its enemies with ferocious force. I want this type of thing not to be a mutation within the breed book instead be a literal experiment where a dog had been placed onto another dogs body, so I’ll need to make sure I keep in mind to try and show that with it in my design and try not to make people believe that it is the type of mutation instead of it being a purposeful experiment that someone did to this poor creature.

I believe the reason within Universe of K 47 would be that a type of mad scientist of some sort would Want to create a type of specialise true that would do only be much more powerful and vicious than any other human they have within their army button be 10 times more loyal Than anyone else so that’s why he had decided to land on the use of canines within his experiment and to put later on come to the realisation that graphing on a smaller dog would allow for much better surveillance while the bigger half would be able to keep fighting, creating in their twisted mind would believe the perfect killing machine for their faction to use within the war. Win the designing process of this creature I want to try and get across the mutated and experimented kind of feel with it with me maybe trying to try and add extra body parts onto the dogs or any other type of messed up but kind of imagery that I could think of that would betray this as a sort of unholy experiment. I also want to make the dog look very disturbed but also be able to make it still look recognisable as a dog and also as a sort of still lovable kind of creature in a weird way that being I’m really able to show its true monsters at stressfulness on the battlefield while it’s is just an ordinary dog that has been sadly experimented to the point where It’s always on guard and always ready to attack when commanded. I really want the design of this creature to kind of pull on the heartstrings of people and kind of make people feel sympathy for this creature since it has gone through quite a lot, I want people to be able to look at it and Recognise that this creature has seen a lot and done a lot that it probably did not want to do it well which I think would create a very special and rememberable special unit within the K 47 universe that people would be able to use within their campaigns.
